How FileToEdit handles uploaded files and what data it keeps. Version of 5 October 2026.

In short

No registration and no accounts.
Your file is used only to recognize it and return the result to you. We do not publish or sell files, pass them to other services or use them to train models.
The site has no ads, external analytics or third-party scripts.
Results are kept for 1 hour after completion; a job lasts no longer than 24 hours. You can delete files sooner.

The file is sent over HTTPS to a rented FileToEdit server and stored outside the public part of the site. The file name is not stored, only its extension.
The processor fetches the file over an encrypted connection and recognizes it on the service owner's computer in an isolated container without internet access. Temporary copies are deleted after processing.
The result returns to the server. Only the browser that uploaded the file can open, edit, download or delete it: access is checked with this job's cookie.
Recording summaries are produced by a language model on the same computer from your corrected text. No external AI services are used.

A finished result is available for 1 hour; an unfinished job is deleted within 24 hours.
“Delete files” removes the source and the result immediately. After a disk or process failure, deletion is retried automatically and may take longer.
File names and links between jobs and visitors are not stored, so we cannot locate a specific file from an email. Use the delete button or wait for the retention period to end.

Job cookie. A random access key for one job. It is valid for up to 24 hours and sent only with requests for that job. The site sets no other cookies.
Page statistics. Time, the tool page opened, method and response code. IP address, cookies, browser details and referrer are not recorded.
Daily counters. Numbers of uploads, completed and failed jobs, and downloads by format. No content, file names or job identifiers.
Technical data. The IP address is used in server memory for rate limiting. The web server error log may contain the IP address, time and requested URL. It is used to fix failures, kept for a limited time and not used for statistics.

Upload only files you have the right to process. If a file contains other people's personal data, such as voices of meeting participants, you are responsible for having grounds to submit it for recognition.
Do not upload passports, payment card data, medical documents, passwords or other highly sensitive information.
Uploading illegal material and attempting to bypass service limits is prohibited.
FileToEdit is a beta service provided “as is”, free of charge and without availability guarantees. Recognition and summaries may contain errors: check text, numbers, names and dates before use.
